There are vents in the sides both sides. I ve heard conflicting reports about it. Yes if you stand it vertically there is still a bit of airflow but not as good as if you stood it horizontally or with the stand the stand has vents. Put the shiny side up for the intended orientation.

With that said i believe that one side of the ps4 has little feet that are intended to be used if you decide to stand it up. So i just don t do it. I personally have never done that with any of my playstation consoles. I might have to stand one of my consoles vertically soon due to a lack of shelf space.

Considering the vents are on the side of the console. Find low everyday prices and buy online for delivery or in store pick up. Heard that many people having problems with the ps4 s are standing them upright wanted to see if there was any correlation. My ps3 had been vertical for 5 6 years since getting it on its stand but now with a new medi centre unit my ps3 is lying flat my ps4 has been flat since getting it.
